MOODSTRATIFICATION.EU is about a new approach to the diagnosis and treatment of severe mood disorders, like bipolar disorder (BD), major depressive disorder (MDD) and postpartum psychosis (PP) by looking for biological underpinnings in the immune system.
RESEARCH ON MOODSTRATIFICATION.EU
MOODSTRATIFICATION.EU is about research on imbalances in the immune system as a cause for mood disorders. The hypothesis is that major mood disorders are the result of a systemic abnormal condition of imbalances in the T cell system and a proneness to inflammation.
IMPACT FOR PATIENTS: A future scenario
It’s a realistic scenario that in the 2020’s we will be able to give a personalised treatment to patients with psychiatric disorders like depressions, based on the immune signatures in these patients. Four (fictive) cases illustrate what could be the impact of the current research.
Partners in MOODSTRATIFICATION.EU
The project Moodstratification is carried out by 12 European research institutes from 7 different countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Denmark and Israel. The department of immunology of ErasmusMC coordinates the project.
Moodstratification has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 754740
